Camping Cricketing Combo Catches Covid, chaotic collapse continues

Cricket South Africa has confirmed that there were two confirmed Coronavirus cases in the squad which went on camp this week. The camp, which was designed to foster a culture of unity as well as mapping a way forward for the national team is being held at the Kruger National Park. CSA had tested 50 players and official prior to the camp, which started on Tuesday. and have confirmed that there were two cases amongst the camping party. CSA declined to name the pair. "There were no replacements made for the two players who tested positive. All those unable to attend the camp will join the proceedings virtually,” CSA said in a statement on Thursday. This news comes hot on the heels of a rather forgettable last 18 months for CSA which has seen its board for all intents and purposes dissolved before our eyes, seen them lose eight of their last nine Tests, and an even more calamitous past four weeks, which has seen the a racial scandal rock South African cricket. 

The Curious Case of Beresford Williams

Newlands Cricket Stadium is set to upgrade their offices from next year in an attempt to become debt-free by 2021. Why is this important? Because in order to reach this level of financial prosperity Western Province Cricket Association had to go cap in hand to Cricket South Africa's offices to ask them to help fund this venture. Fortunately for the Cobras, their president, Beresford Williams was also the Vice-President of CSA. This potential conflict of interest was flagged as an actual conflict of interest by former CSA board member, Jack Madiseng in an email to former CSA President Chris Nenzani and Williams.  Here's an excerpt from the email;  “At the time of the proposal for CSA to partner with Western Province, CSA Fincomm comprised of the now vice-president, treasurer and the president of Boland [Williams] (which also sits on the Cobras Board, which is made up of Western Cape, Boland and  South Western Districts ),” Madiseng said in his submissions to the forensic investi

Kugandrie Govender named CEO of CSA

Cricket South Africa have named Kugandrie Govender as the acting Chief Executive. This hire came on the back of previous CEO, Jacques Faul's abrupt resignation.  Statement by CSA “We are pleased to announce Kugandrie Govender’s appointment as Acting Chief Executive of CSA. Beresford Williams named President of CSA

Beresford Williams has been named the acting president of Cricket South Africa (CSA) until the 5th of September. Williams, who was embroiled in scandal himself over the handling of the Newlands Cricket Ground upgrade, had been the incumbent President of Western Province Cricket, as well as the Vice-President of CSA. "The Board of Cricket South Africa (CSA) notes that following the resignation of the President of the Board of Cricket South Africa, the Members’ Council has announced that Beresford Williams will fill the role of acting President until the AGM set for the 5th of September 2020. Further, the Board advises that Acting CEO, Dr Jacques Faul, has decided to end his secondment with immediate effect, which secondment was due to terminate on the 15 of September 2020. Dr Faul has put in place a detail transitional plan that will ensure the organisation makes a seamless transition to a new Acting CEO, that the Board will advise on shortly. Chris Nenzani resigns as president of Cricket South Africa

President of Cricket South Africa, Chris Nenzani has resigned from his post, according to a press release from CSA.  " Chris Nenzani has resigned as the President of the Members Council and the Chairman of the board of directors of Cricket South Africa (CSA) with effect from the 15th of August 2020. Mr. Nenzani led Cricket South Africa with dedication and astutely since 2013. Mr. Nenzani has provided valuable leadership, insight, assistance and direction in advancing the game of cricket with a focus on achieving transformation and access for the majority of the South African population. On behalf of Cricket South Africa’s Members Council and the board of directors we thank Mr. Nenzani for his contributions to Cricket South Africa and for being a loyal servant to the game of cricket for over 20 years. South African men's team to go on a culture camp

 The South African men's cricket team is set to go on a culture camp this week. The camp, which  is to be held at the Kruger National Park, is being held with the aim of facilitating engagement on team elements that require attention. The touring part consists of mostly Proteas, with only four uncapped players set to attend. Faf du Plessis has been excused from the camp to attend the birth of his second child, while Theunis de Bruyn has been excused to attend to a family matter.
